How to Know If Your Company Was Hurt by the Facebook Breach

If your company has a Facebook page, then your company may have been hacked.

But even if the company doesn't do Facebook, there still may be a problem. That's because as many as 50 million Facebook users were recently compromised, and that includes employees everywhere.

So it's probably time to send out a company-wide memo. Subject line: Stay Off Facebook at Work, Except for Now.

Three Bugs

It's almost election time, but we're not talking about the Russian security breach. Last month, Facebook detected three bugs in its system that could be used to access tokens.

Like a digital key, a token can be manipulated for information. In this case, hackers used them to get names, birth dates, device types, workplaces, recent searches and more.

Geek writers explained how to find out if your account was attacked. Surprise, they said to ask Facebook.

It takes a couple of clicks to get to the Facebook Help Center, where the company apologizes and clears your account. Apology accepted -- because you don't have a choice.

More Problems

Facebook staved off more problems by temporarily shutting down access tokens of almost 90 million accounts. After some investigation, the company revised its estimates down from 50 million to 30 million hacked accounts.

Apparently, the bugs have been sorted out and the hackers can't get back in. At least not until next time.

So yeah, time for everybody to get off Facebook and get back to work.
