Woman Sues Disneyland Hotel for Bedbug Bites

A hotel guest was quite literally bugged by a few things during a recent stay at Anaheim's Disneyland Hotel in April 2018. In a lawsuit she filed in Los Angeles Superior Court this week, Dr. Ivy Eldridge claims the Disneyland Hotel failed to provide her with a bedbug-free room, and as a result, ended up with welts and bites on her face, ears, neck, arms and back. Walt Disney Co., Walt Disney Parks and Resorts and Disneyland Hotel are all named defendants in the negligence lawsuit. The plaintiff seeks punitive damages as well as damages for physical and mental suffering.

Beware the Bed Bug Lawyer

Dr. Eldridge alleges to have suffered physical and emotional damages at the hands of, or maybe the teeth of, bedbugs. She has retained the legal services of Brian Virag from My Bed Bug Lawyer Inc., and claims that the hotel did not provide a habitable room. Virag has been as busy as a bee fighting for bedbug victims. He won a $546,000 verdict for a family bitten by bedbugs at a Hilton hotel in Rancho Cucamonga, a $1.6 million verdict for a family that endured months in a bedbug-ridden apartment in Los Angeles, and a $3.5 million verdict stemming from bedbugs at the Park La Brea Apartments in Los Angeles.

Disney All Too Familiar With Bug's Life

This isn't the first time Disney has been sued for bedbugs. In 2014, a Northern California Bay Area family that stayed at another hotel on Disney's Anaheim property, the swank Grand Californian Hotel, sued the company for failing to provide a bedbug-free room. Leading up to that incident, there had been many bedbug postings of infestations at that hotel on the online Bedbug Registry report. It is unclear how that lawsuit was resolved, but one outcome was crystal clear. The Grand Californian received a host of bad publicity and bad reviews in the wake of that lawsuit.
