Top In House Counsel Honored by National Bar Association

The National Bar Association, along with the Corporate Leadership Forum, presented its inaugural NBA Pinnacle Award on August 2nd, honoring the Kraft Legal Department; the Institute for Inclusion in the Legal Profession (IILP); Roderick A. Palmore of General Mills; and Veta T. Richardson of the Association of Corporate Counsel.

The award is meant to recognize "excellence in corporate America and distinguished corporate counsel, including the highest achievements and accomplishments of corporate counsel in endeavors ranging from improving the legal profession, pro bono, career accomplishments, diversity, and matters of governance."

Pinnacle honoree IILP was recognized for its efforts in lowering the "wall of uniformity" around the legal profession that "limits entry and advancement based on race, ethnicity, color, culture, gender, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, religion, geography and age."

Kraft is listed as one of the IILP's primary sponsors and is known for its vast efforts to create a diverse workplace, leading it to be placed on the list of Top 50 Companies for Diversity and Mother magazine's 100 Best Companies for Multicultural Women.

An Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Chief Compliance and Risk Management Officer for General Mills, honoree Roderick A. Palmore serves on the executive committee of the Association of General Counsel, chairs the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity, and has received a number of awards for his work on diversifying the profession.

Finally, as the current President and Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Corporate Counsel, Veta T. Richardson spent the last ten years advocating for improved diversity in law departments across the country.

They are all very worthy recipients of the first-ever NBA Pinnacle Award.
