Second DUI Case for Actor Chris Klein

It is the second time around for "American Pie" actor Chris Klein, who is now involved in another DUI case. 

Early on Wednesday, June 16, actor Chris Klein was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.

According to authorities, Klein was stopped by police for suspected DUI after he was spotted driving erratically on the Hollywood Highway in Sherman Oaks, Ca, the Associated Press reports.

Apparently, his blood-alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit, TMZ reports. The legal limit in California is .08.

In general, DUI laws make it unlawful for a person to operate just about any type of vehicle if:

  • The driver's ability to safely operate the vehicle is impaired by the effects of alcohol, illegal drugs, prescribed medications such as painkillers, or even over-the-counter medications such as antihistamines; or
  • The driver is intoxicated at a level above established DUI standards, such as blood-alcohol concentration (BAC).

This is Chris Klein's second run-in with the law for an alcohol-related arrest.

According to the AP, in 2005, Klein pled guilty to a misdemeanor drunken driving charge in north San Diego County. He was fined $1,800 and ordered to perform 150 hours of community service.

In his current DUI case, TMZ reports Klein blew well over a .20. In general, chemical tests can be conducted during the vehicle stop, using a Breathalyzer that measures a driver's blood-alcohol concentration (BAC), or at a hospital, where urine and blood tests can be performed. Many states allow a driver suspected of DUI to choose which type of chemical test is administered.
