Oscar-winning actress Sandra Bullock has filed divorce papers to permanently split from husband Jesse James. She plans to start a new life as a single mother, after the pair adopted a 3½-month-old baby boy.

Bullock filed divorce papers from her husband of five years, Jesse James, following a cheating scandal, the Associated Press reports. James and Bullock adopted a baby boy from New Orleans back in January. The couple planned to keep the news of their adopted son, Louis Bardo Bullock, under wraps until after the Oscars.

Now, Bullock will raise the baby as a single parent.

According to a statement James posted on People Magazine web site, he's left with "a huge hole in his heart," as his child and his wife are the most important people in his life.

The couple has been separated since alleged reports that James cheated on his wife with as many as four women. It also was reported that Bullock has been taking care of Jesse James' other children: Sunny, 6; Jesse Jr., 12 and Chandler, 15, while he was in a 30-day treatment program.

As previously discussed, Jesse James and Sandra Bullock were awarded full custody of James' daughter Sunny. However, James' ex wife Janine Lindemulder now wants full custody of her daughter after James' alleged infidelity with a tattoo model.

Bullock won the Oscar for best actress for her role in the blockbuster hit "The Blind Side," on March 7. Shortly after her win, the cheating allegations became public and Bullock went into seclusion.

Of her relationship with James, Sandra says she will try to address issues that come up around co-parenting in the healthiest way possible. But she also is looking forward to life as a single parent.
