Rick Ross Hears Shooting, Crashes Rolls Royce
Rapper Rick Ross crashed his Rolls Royce into an apartment building on Monday. According to Ross, a drive-by shooting (or perhaps an assassination attempt) may have been the reason why.
If you are not into the world of gangsta rap, you may not be aware that Rick Ross adopted the symbol of the Gangster Disciples gang and featured the name of the gang's leader in one of his songs.
The gang was none too happy about Ross using their symbol and leader like that and demanded (or perhaps attempted to extort?) money from the rapper, reports CNN. Ross declined, and so the gang naturally took to YouTube, where its various followers responded with videotaped threats on Ross' life.
With that in mind, Rick Ross was driving his very expensive car in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and may have been a little jumpy when he heard the sound of gunfire. It's not confirmed if the gunshots were aimed at Ross, or if even a Gangster Disciple was responsible for the shooting.
But Ross was not taking any chances and plowed his car into a nearby apartment building, reports CNN. Neither Ross nor his female passenger were hurt.
In the YouTube videos, the gang warned Ross that "we're pulling up on you" and basically stated that Ross was in danger wherever he may be, unless he "cut the check." With his own street cred on the line, Ross has refused, calling himself the "boss," though he did cancel a show in North Carolina following the threats.
So was Ross a jumpy driver, or was he really a victim of an assassination attempt by a notorious gang?
As police work to figure that out, Ross is continuing to deal with legal problems due to his embattled street cred. The former corrections officer, whose real name is William Roberts, was accused of taking on the identity of noted drug dealer Ricky Ross to enhance his image as a tough guy/rapper.
The real Ricky Ross has taken his beef with rapper Rick Ross to a Los Angeles courtroom (instead of the Florida streets), and is suing the rapper for profiting off of his story. Similar prior lawsuits have been tossed, however.
