Reese Witherspoon Hit by Car While Jogging in Santa Monica
Oscar-winner Reese Witherspoon was hit by a car while she went jogging in Santa Monica.
Police in Santa Monica confirmed that the actress was jogging around 11:00 a.m. Wednesday when she was struck, Reuters reports.
Witherspoon, 35, is recovering at home after receiving treatment for minor injuries.
Police say the driver, an 84-year-old woman from Santa Monica, was going about 20 mph when she hit Witherspoon.
The driver, whose identity has not been released, was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and released. Reese Witherspoon, hit while jogging in a residential part of Santa Monica, was rushed to the hospital.
Pedestrians, be they Hollywood A-listers or anyone else, normally have the right of way and cars have to yield to them. Pedestrians certainly have the right of way in crosswalks.
When a pedestrian is not crossing at a crosswalk, however, the pedestrian becomes the lawbreaker. A Georgia mother, for instance, recently watched as her son was killed right in front of her. Raquel Nelson had jaywalked a four-lane freeway, however. So the mother was convicted of second-degree vehicular homicide, reckless conduct, and failure to use a crosswalk.
Luckily for Witherspoon, she not seriously injured and was released from the hospital, Reuters reports.
"The actress was not seriously injured and is resting comfortably at home," her spokeswoman said in a statement, Reuters reports.
Reese Witherspoon being hit by a car is certainly a strange occurrence. The actress won an Oscar for her role in "Walk The Line." She married Hollywood agent Jim Toth earlier this year. She has two children with ex-husband, actor Ryan Phillippe.
