Rapper Young Jeezy Arrested After Killing at Wiz Khalifa Concert

Atlanta rapper Young Jeezy was arrested on weapons charges two days after a shooting backstage at a California stop of his tour with Wiz Khalifa left one man dead.

Jeezy, whose real name is Jay Wayne Jenkins, was one of six men arrested at the Verizon Amphitheatre in Irvine on Sunday when police, while executing a search warrant, found assault weapons backstage, reports the San Jose Mercury News.

To be clear, "We haven't made any arrests for the homicide," a police spokesman told the newspaper.

Possession of an Assault Weapon

Jeezy and five other people working for the "Under the Influence of Music Tour" -- which featured Wiz Khalifa, Young Jeezy, and a number of other prominent hip hop artists -- were all arrested on suspicion of possessing an assault rifle, report the San Jose Mercury News.

Under the California Penal Code, possession of an assault weapon is a punishable by up to a year in county jail, or in some instances, up to three years in county jail.

Jeezy and the other suspects were arrested as part of the investigation into the fatal shooting of 38-year-old Eric Johnson at a concert in Mountain View, California, during a previous stop on the tour, which ended Sunday in Irvine.

Although police say that they have not yet arrested anyone in connection with the homicide, Jeezy and one other suspect are being held on $1 million bail, significantly higher than typical for an assault weapon charge, a legal analyst told the Mercury News.

According to Mountain View police, the shooting occurred as the concert was letting out. Johnson was reportedly a concert promoter, but was not involved in the tour.

Young Jeezy was arrested earlier this year on charges of false imprisonment, battery, and terrorist threats, reports TMZ, after reportedly getting into an altercation with his son. According to police documents in that case, Jeezy allegedly told his son, "I will put a bullet in your head right now."
