Rapper Fat Joe Questioned in Sexual Assault Case
Wisconsin police are still investigating an alleged sexual assault case involving rapper Fat Joe.
Rapper Fat Joe, whose real name is Joseph Cartagena and members of his entourage were questioned by the Wisconsin police about allegations made by an unidentified 33-year-old local woman who claims she was inappropriately touched by the rap star and his crew during a limo ride after a concert, MTV News reports.
Platinum-selling rapper Fat Joe was in town to perform at the Orpheum Theater in Madison.
Fat Joe's lawyer, Dawn Florio denied the allegations. According to a statement released the woman initially posed as a fan and later claimed to be the victim of an assault after demanding money.
The statement continues, "At no point did Mr. Cartagena or any member of his entourage assault or have any improper contact with the woman. It is truly unfortunate that false allegations such as these cause the public to doubt the claims of actual victims of sexual assaults."
According to the police report, the woman had been traveling with rapper Fat Joe and his crew in their limo as they headed to a hotel after the concert.
Police are still investigating the sexual assault allegations.
Specific laws vary by state, but sexual assault generally refers to any crime in which the offender subjects the victim to sexual touching that is unwanted and offensive. These crimes can range from sexual groping or assault/battery, to attempted rape.
In this sexual assault investigation, rapper Fat Joe and members of his entourage were arrested and detained for several hours before authorities released them without charge.
