Rap Superstar Lil' Wayne Goes to The Big House

Lil' Wayne's dental work is done.

The courthouse fire has been put out.

And his goodbye video to his fans is a wrap.

The only thing left to do is for the multiplatinum-selling rapper to turn himself in.

He finally entered the big house today to begin his one-year prison sentence in New York.

As previously discussed, his Feb. 9 sentencing was put on temporary hold due to dental surgery for eight root canals in one day.

His sentencing also was delayed a second time due to a basement courthouse fire in Lower Manhattan.

According to the Associated Press, Lil' Wayne will serve his sentence in city jails, rather than state prison.

As previously discussed, the rap superstar pleaded guilty in October to attempted criminal possession of a weapon. The charge stemmed from a 2007 New York traffic stop of his tour bus where a loaded .40 semi-automatic was found in a Louis Vuitton bag.

New York's gun and weapons are among the toughest in the country. Simple possession of a concealed handgun carries jail time.

Lil Wayne plead guilty to second-degree attempted weapon possession, a felony.

Under his plea deal he was given a reduced 12-month sentence. But with good behavior, he could end up spending only about eight months behind bars.

The rapper will be held with 13,000 other inmates in the city's jails. Jail officials say he will be treated like other new arrivals.

Although Lil' Wayne is a celebrity inmate a NYC corrections officer said the rapper will probably experience ordinary prison life which includes:

  • 10-by-15-foot cell with a toilet, sink, bed and one window
  • 4 a.m. wakeup calls for breakfast
  • 11 a.m. lunchtimes
  • 3 p.m. dinners
  • Evening lights out
  • Allowed to receive two visits per week
