Practice Point, a Legal Solution Made for In-House Attorneys

By Casey C. Sullivan, Esq. on February 23, 2016 | Last updated on March 21, 2019

Earlier this month, Thomson Reuters, the company behind Westlaw, Practical Law, and FindLaw, launched Practice Point, a new legal solution that satisfies the need for both expertise and efficiency by delivering relevant the content and tools you need for a particular task.

If that's good, this is even better: Practice Point was specifically designed to meet the needs of in-house attorneys. That's right, someone is finally taking the time to give in-house counsel the TLC they deserve. Let's take a look.

Content, Expertise, and Technology

Thomson Reuters' Practice Point works by taking the best content from Westlaw and Practical Law, curated by experts and attorneys, and organized by areas, projects, and tasks. (Disclosure, if you missed it above: Thomson Reuters is FindLaw's parent company.) Task-based menus make it easy to jump into a project and get moving easily, efficiently, and with confidence.

For example, if you're launching a new product, everything you might need is right there. Practice Point allows you to select between manufacturing agreements, intellectual property issues, insurance coverage, product liability and antitrust considerations. Practice Point features Practical Law checklists to help you move through work smoothly, addressing key business and legal issues related to your task.

Add in toolkits, practice notes, and Drafting Assistant Essentials and -- well, you'd still just be hitting the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the tools and technology included. Practice Point can't promise to make drafting manufacturing agreements fun, but it can probably make them easier.

And, of course, there's much more where that comes from. Practice Point's practice areas include everything from antitrust, to corporate M&A, to real estate.

The Point Is Efficiency

We've all probably fallen into a research rabbit hole at one time or another, spending hours trying to find the best information, or bouncing back and forth between resources until we forget where anything even is. The fact is, it can be easy to watch time slip by as you search for resources when dealing with a complex task, especially one that's not often handled by your legal department.

Practice Point is designed to help keep you productive and save you time. The task-based organization allows you to find exactly what you need when you need it, while the solution's integrated design makes it easy to jump around seamlessly.

Plus, it's easy to tailor Practice Point to your practice. If you can use a web browser -- and you can! You're doing it right now! -- you can master Practice Point. It allows you to "favorite" resources for quick access, set any page as your start page, and save documents for review later.

Finally, if you're change averse, you don't have to worry about leaving resources behind if you switch to Practice Point, either. If you're already a Westlaw user, for example, your folders and history will be shared seamlessly between the services.

Practice Point allows you to have the best information, tools, and expertise at your fingertips, organized for the way you work.
