Paul McCartney Weds Nancy Shevell: Prenup Signed this Time?

Guess who got married this weekend: Beatles star Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell. The question on many inquiring minds is, of course, whether or not Nancy Shevell signed a prenup.

Well, Nancy Shevell may not be a well-known celebrity. But let's make one thing clear: she doesn't really need McCartney's cash. In fact, she comes from money herself.

Shevell's family owns a truck hauling company that makes more than $400 million in revenue a year. Maybe this is why the reports are that the two lovebirds took the plunge without a prenup.

This is a bold move for McCartney, whose marriage with Heather Mills lasted only about 4 years but cost him $48.6 million. The divorce settlement also ended a bitter, 2-year court battle.

Why risk it all again by not hammering out a prenup? There could be multiple reasons.

  • Signing a prenup before getting married can ruin the whole "romantic" feel.
  • Prenups can also be difficult to write up in the early stages of a relationship. It's hard to figure out what issues may crop up in the future.
  • And, just because you have a prenup doesn't mean you will avoid a divorce court. Courts have final say in child support issues, and can also set aside provisions that they find are against the interest of justice.

Plus, as many news outlets are pointing out, Shevell is no Heather Mills.

Just because McCartney's marriage to Mills faltered doesn't mean his marriage to Shevell will too.

This might be why the ex-Beatle didn't have had Nancy Shevell sign a prenup in the first place. Could be that Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell are in line for a "happily ever after" ending. Here's hoping the happy couple never has hire divorce lawyers.
