Paris Hilton Detained in Corsica for Marijuana Possession

Some of us just don't learn a lesson the first 143 times around. Such are the likes of everyone's favorite heiress, Paris Hilton, who was reportedly detained after flying in to the island of Corsica on a vacation from her demanding work life. According to various reports, officers at the airport in Figari found about one gram's worth of marijuana in her posession. She was allegedly detained and released.

According to a report by the AP citing French newspapers, when Paris headed to the French Mediterranean island via a private jet last Friday, July 16, the tourista was carrying a very small amount of ganja in her handbag. Paris was brought in for questioning and released about 30 minutes later.

You may recall that Ms. Hilton was also detained and appeared before a court for the same charge while in South Africa for the World Cup. As noted on this blog, Hilton was detained on suspicion of possession of a controlled (marijuana) substance. After an appearance before the World Cup Court, which no doubt saw a great deal of these types of cases, she was released and the charges were dropped.

Once again, Paris has been allowed to go on her merry way. Some sharp advisor has taught the chronically detained heiress the difference between a detention and an arrest with accompanying charges. So Paris happily tweeted, "Just to put an end to these rumors. The stories saying I have been arrested are completely false!"

As the AP noted, Paris plead no contest a reckless driving charge in 2007 and was sentenced to 45 days in jail. After completing 28 days of her term, she was released and said in an interview she wanted to focus less on partying and "to help raise money for kids and for breast cancer and multiple sclerosis." Looks like that plan lasted as long as a good blowout (around 2 days).
