Paris Hilton Burglar Sentenced to 2 Yrs
Nathan Lee Parada, the Paris Hilton burglar, has been sentenced to 2 years in prison.
Parada had tried to break into Hilton's home in Los Angeles last August, reports Popeater.
In fact, Parada had tried to break into Hilton's house wielding two knives. Parada had come to Hollywood from the Redlands. He bought a "star map" to find out where Hilton's house was, reports Popeater.
Parada didn't get too far into his plan to rob the heiress. Hilton said that she was woken up by the sound of Parada banging a knife against her window, reports CBS News.
Hilton's then-boyfriend, Cy Waits, thwarted the burglary attempt by drawing a gun on Parada before he could get into the house. He ordered Parada to drop the knives, reports Popeater.
When Parada turned to walk away, Waits then noticed that Parada was carrying two knives - one large steak knife and a large buck knife, according to Popeater. When he was questioned by authorities, Parada told them that it was his intent to steal as much as he could hold and then "go live on a deserted island."
Unfortunately for Parada, that deserted island will just have to wait.
Parada was convicted of attempted burglary, stemming from the incident. His attorney said that Parada had not been taking his anti-depressant medication, and the judge has recommended that Parada also go through mental health counseling, reports CBS News.
To be convicted of "attempt," no crime needs to be completed. If a person has the intent to commit a crime, and takes concrete steps towards the completion of crime, then he may be convicted of an attempted crime. In some jurisdictions, merely preparing for the crime may not be enough to establish attempt.
But, since Parada banged on Hilton's window, holding two knives, he likely more than exceeded the stricter "more than preparation" standard.
Now that Nathan Lee Parada, Paris Hilton's burglar has been sentenced, Hilton can rest a little bit easier.
