Ore. Women Steal Cheese Wheels: $600 of Gouda, Blue Cheese

The cheese thieves must be stopped!

Two women walked into a Bend, Oregon Whole Foods Market on Tuesday night and then proceeded to walk out with about $600 worth of stolen cheese.

It was even the good stuff--aged Gouda and decadent blue.

Where's the party?

Caught on surveillance camera, the two cheese thieves sauntered over to Whole Foods' overpriced cheese and wine section where they then proceeded to pick up an entire wheel of smoked Gouda, reports KTVZ.

Though poundage is unknown, the wheel sells for $300. However, it is traditionally cut up into much smaller chunks before being sold. Or stolen.

What's even odder than the concept of stolen cheese is that the women then asked for a box, which was brought to them by a market employee, notes the station.

With a boxed-up wheel of Gouda in the cart, one woman exited the store while the other falsely reported to a nearby checkout line. But, before they left, they grabbed another $300 in stolen cheese.

This cost the store two precious wheels of pricey blue.

Tragic, I know.

Police aren't exactly sure of the cheese thieves' intent, but with such clear video, they are hoping to catch the women soon.

And when they do, chances are it won't be pretty.

Stealing $600 worth of property is a Class A misdemeanor in Oregon, which is punishable by up to 1 year in jail and/or a $6,250 fine.

Looks like the cheese thieves should have purchased cheese instead of stolen cheese--they clearly overpaid.
