Oral Arguments Rescheduled For Next Week

Due to Mother Nature's wintery ways, the D.C. Circuit is rescheduling oral arguments that were originally set for Thursday, February 13, 2014 to be heard on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 2:00 p.m.

While it's unclear if the Court of Appeals itself will be closed, attorneys who have oral arguments scheduled for tomorrow will be getting an unexpected extension on their case.

In the meantime, grab some hot cocoa and get to work.

How To Prepare

While getting an unexpected extension on your oral argument may seem like a gift from the universe, you actually have some more work to do. First, contact all of your clients to let them know about the schedule change. Get some good karma points by contacting opposing counsel too, in case they're unaware of the new oral arguments schedule.

Take the extra six days to go over your case file and really practice what you're going to say next week to please the court. This could even give you a chance to find that lucky sock that's gone missing.

Consider working from home the next few days, too. If the inclement weather is enough to get the federal government to take action, then it may be a sign for you to stay off the roads.

Check For Other Court Closures or Rescheduling

The winter weather caused most courts to close and reschedule cases at some point last month, as reported by The Washington Post. If you have other court appearances in either the D.C. District Court or local courts, check to make sure that they're open. Consider calling the Clerk's Office if a closure affected your hearing date, so you know what the rescheduled date is.

So far, it seems like courts in D.C. will be open tomorrow, according to the Twitter page of D.C. Court's Public Information Office.

The most up-to-date information on court closures or rescheduling will be found on the D.C. Circuit website. So if the weather outside is frightful, check the website before heading to court.
