One Brangelina Battle Finally Over: Pitt, Jolie File Child Custody Agreement
Our long national nightmare has ended. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have finally agreed to a custody agreement involving the ex-couple's six children. While news of the out-of-court settlement leaked last month, more details have surfaced after the agreement was finally filed.
Here's a look at what we know.
Pitt Victories
Pitt claimed a small victory in August, after the judge in their divorce dispute ordered Jolie to allow visitation rights. Then in November, Jolie's attorney, Samantha Bley DeJean, confirmed to "Entertainment Tonight" that a "custody arrangement was agreed to weeks ago and has been signed by both parties and the judge." Details were scarce at the time, but a source recently told Us Weekly that Pitt "got what he wanted" in the ongoing custody battle. And what was that?
While details of the settlement remain confidential -- and other terms of the divorce remain unsettled -- Jolie allegedly "agreed to a deal that gives Brad joint physical and legal custody of the children." Although Pitt will be granted less than 50 percent custody of the children initially, The Blaze reports that an increase in custody "will come in stages," and "will see Pitt gain more and more custody over time."
Jolie Wars
According to reports, a full 50/50 custody split will depend on the couple hashing out their financial interests in the divorce, a process that could take far longer than the two-year-custody battle. Jolie apparently handed over financial information to Pitt's legal team recently, and the family court is "reserving jurisdiction over termination of marital or domestic partnership status and financial issues."
With hundreds of millions of dollars in money and property in play, a complete settlement and finalization of the divorce may have to wait.
