NY Man with 23 Suspensions Arrested for DWI

A suspended driver's license isn't a good thing. Neither is driving on a suspended license. But when you drive drunk on a suspended license, well, you're just asking for it. It being jail time, of course.

Kurt Knoernschild, 53, was arrested early Thursday morning after running a red light in Long Island, NY. When cops ran his license, they realized that it had been suspended. And that this wasn't the first time.

Since 1979, Knoernschild has had his driver's license revoked twenty-three times.

Thursday wasn't Kurt Knoernschild's first DWI, either. He has been arrested for drunk driving six times between 1982 and 2005, according to NBC. On 11 other occasions, he was stopped on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, but refused blood alcohol tests.

The serial offender is also intimately familiar with a jail cell. Between 2003 and 2011, he spent six years behind bars, Suffolk County district attorney spokesman Robert Clifford told the network. He served three sentences which were about three years each.

Knoernschild will likely find himself back behind bars. He's been charged with felony driving while intoxicated and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. But because he's never been in a serious accident, chances are the sentence will be short. Lt. David Gear has suggested that this is why he never served more than 2 years at a time.

Now, don't thinking that you can get away with behavior like Kurt Knoernschild. Any good NYC DWI lawyer will tell you that courting the law just isn't worth the risk. Plus, the more DWIs you have, the harsher your punishment will be -- no matter where you live.
