NY Man Steals Greyhound Bus to Visit Friend on Christmas

Are you clueless about what you should do if you can't find a ride? Maybe you should take a page from New York man Andrew Hickey. On Christmas day, he stole an entire Greyhound bus in order to visit his friend.

He was arrested and charged with criminal possession of stolen property and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

Officials caught up to the daring thief after Greyhound disabled the bus electronically. Police then used GPS to track down the vehicle.

Hickey boarded the bus on Sunday. He said he got on because he was cold. The bus was being fueled and cleaned at the time.

Well, apparently he got sick of simply warming up inside the Greyhound. He decided to drive off in the bus. It helped that he has a commercial driver's license. He knew how to handle such a large vehicle.

What he didn't know was that Greyhound is able to electronically stop their buses. It's a nifty feature that probably comes in handy whenever one of their expensive buses gets pilfered.

But a bus is not exactly the most inconspicuous of getaway vehicles. It's also not like you could easily stash the car. Plus, parking a Greyhound would be a total pain.

It didn't occur to Hickey to try to buy a ticket? After all, spending a few bucks on transportation beats prison and a criminal record.

Andrew Hickey is being held in jail on a $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond, according to ABC 50. He might be regretting his decision to steal the Greyhound bus right about now.
