NY Burglar Butt Dials 911 While Planning Next Heist

It's not every day that a burglar butt dials 911, giving law enforcement a heads up as to his future crimes.

But three men (two brothers and their cousin) did just that, and now they're facing time behind bars.

Ronald, Thomas and Allen Euson were driving through Clay--a suburb of Syracuse, New York--when a 911 dispatcher unknowingly became privy to their conversation.

The men were not only boasting about a recent heist, but were discussing which local businesses they'd like to break into next, reports The Post-Standard.

Of course, they also had to comment on their surroundings, including the presence of a cop who was on his way to a call.

That was enough information for the cop to turn around, reports the Associated Press. The three were pulled over and found carrying stolen property.

Because one of the men pocket dialed the emergency key on his cell phone, all three are being charged with grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property--felonies.

Though they have yet to be charged with it, the butt dialing burglars could also be charged with conspiracy to commit theft.

To prove conspiracy, there must be evidence that two or more people agreed to commit an unlawful crime and then took some action towards its completion. The 911 tape gets prosecutors halfway there.

Anyway, as with similar situations, in the end, we must consider what can be learned from an intellectually challenged burglar:

Butt dials to 911 are a no-no, so please lock your phones.
