NJ Tax Collector Paid Dominatrix with City Money, Stole $800K

Alan Bartolozzi, former tax collector for the New Jersey town of Secaucus, is expected to be sentenced this week after pleading guilty to two counts of theft back in May.

The accusation? He stole in excess of $800,000 in city tax payments and funds from the local municipal union between February 2008 and May 2009.

And what did he do with it? Prosecutors believe he used it to pay a dominatrix.

As a tax collector in the town of Secaucus, which boasts about 16,000 residents, Alan Bartolozzi was given access to tax payments, reports The Record. Prosecutors allege that he stole $777,000 from those funds, though he has only admitted to stealing $75,000 as part of a plea agreement.

He also allegedly stole nearly $25,000 from the Secaucus Public Employees Association, of which he was treasurer for nearly 5 years.

On that charge, he has pled guilty to stealing more than $500.

Because, as part of a plea deal, he's pled guilty to two counts of second-degree theft, he can escape the much harsher punishment that would have come with stealing nearly $800,000 from the city.

However, this is not to say that he will automatically get off easy.

According to The Record, prosecutors have requested that he serve his sentences consecutively, or back-to-back, which could put him behind bars for up to 15 years if the judge agrees.

If he gets 15 years, the agreement will be a perfect example of how plea agreements are often a much more judicious use of taxpayer money.

Now, as for the ever-important dominatrix, there's evidence that Alan Bartolozzi transferred money nineteen times to a woman known only as "Tara Juliana."
