New WeedMaps.com Offers Marijuana Coupons

Forget the street corners. Forget those dark back rooms. Hell, forget that sketchy friend of a friend. WeedMaps.com has just ushered in a new era of pot shopping, and it begins with medical marijuana coupons.

At first glance, WeedMaps.com looks like a Yelp.com for pot shopping. Limited to states that have legalized medical marijuana, a user can search via his zip code or for a specific "menu" item. The site then shows a map listing the corresponding dispensaries, all of which have been rated by users. Each listing also includes a full description of what products are offered and corresponding prices.

But then you notice the little icon that screams Coupon! Oh, and the ones that declare a Sale!

Wait, what? Marijuana Coupons? Yes.

Think of WeedMaps.com as a promotional tool for medical marijuana dispensaries--a way to make pot shopping more affordable for us all. According to a press release, the company behind WeedMaps.com started the venture as a way to expand awareness and help dispensaries attract clients. It allows local purveyors to post their "menus" and offer deals to clients, new and old.

But aren't marijuana coupons illegal?

Eh, maybe. But according to the press release, users don't actually pay for the coupons over the Internet. It's unclear how they pay for the marijuana coupons, but it's likely that the site offers its Daily Deals to users, who then print out the coupon and take it to a dispensary. At the dispensary there may be a small fee to use the coupon. In other words, it's kind of like Groupon, except that if smoking too much pot causes you to lose the coupon, you aren't out $50.
