New to In-House? ACC's Corporate Counsel University is May 19-21

Jack-of-all-trades - that's what you'll be. As the in-house attorney for your company, you are going to need to know finance, contracts, employment law, accounting, law department management, liability, indemnity, and confidentiality. There's probably more, but hey,that's what the conference is for, right?

The Association of Corporate Counsel will have its annual Corporate Counsel University intensive program from May 19-21 in New Orleans, LA at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside. From the Google Map, it looks like you'll be near both the French Quarter and the Coyote Ugly Saloon, which we can only assume is related to the landmark "women dancing on bars" film of the same name.

Learn accounting by day, "network" and drink Hand Grenades in the French Quarter by night. Sounds like the perfect weekend, right?

And if you're interested in the continuing legal education aspects of the program, note that you'll earn up to 12 CLE/CPD credits, including ethics.

Above the Law's David Mowry has presented at the CCU in the past. He describes the participants, which are far fewer in number than the ACC's Annual Meeting, as excited newcomers to the in-house ranks who are often in small departments of 10 attorneys or less and who are "on fire" about their new positions and about learning information, tips, and tricks to help them succeed in their new job.

He also enjoys the collegiality and camaraderie that exists between in-house attorneys that he felt was lacking in local and state Bar functions in private practice.

The environment this year should help that camaraderie even further. Not only is New Orleans a much more fun party town than Los Angeles (says the former Los Angelino) but the ACC Gives Back! project will put in-house attorneys to work restoring tables, benches, and shelters and replacing trees along Lake Pontchartrain, which still suffers from post-Katrina blight. They provide the lunch and tools, you provide the man and womanpower.

Of course, if you are too hung-over, or have to return to your in-house position on a Sunday, the community service project is voluntary.
