Nearly Naked Woman Gets DWI After Crashing Into Wall
Is this a DWI or indecent exposure? A nearly naked woman crashed her Volkswagen Jetta just after midnight on Friday and then fled, only to be caught by cops a short distance later.
The driver, 36-year-old Catherine Giaquinto of New York, is facing several charges after she allegedly crashed her car into a stone retaining wall in New Jersey and then drove off, the Asbury Park Press reports.
Though it was near freezing at the time, about 12:50 a.m., Giaquinto was wearing only an unzipped leather jacket, police said.
Police stopped a pantsless Giaquinto just minutes after the crash. She allgedly told police that she couldn't remember getting into the accident, and didn't know where she was going.
Of course, when the police asked her why she was driving nearly in the buff, she denied being naked too.
Giaquinto's clothes were in the back seat of her car, the Press reports. When an officer asked her to put on her clothes, it took her 10 minutes to do so.
And when she'd finished, she'd put her dress on inside-out and backwards, police said.
More important to their investigation, when police spoke to Giaquinto, she was slurring her words and her speech was "mostly unintelligible." That, in addition to her state of (un)dress, led officers to suspect she'd been drinking.
They conducted a field sobriety test, which she allegedly (but not surprisingly) failed. At that point, they placed her under arrest and took her to police headquarters for an alcohol breath test and processing.
But Giaquinto apparently refused to submit to an alcohol breath test, according to the Press. That's a decision that can result in fines and a license suspension, under New Jersey's implied consent laws.
Nearly naked driver Catherine Giaquinto was subsequently charged with DWI, refusal to submit to breath testing, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, careless driving, failure to wear a seat belt, and a documentation violation.
She didn't appear to get any charges related to her naked driving, however.
