Naked Airport Incident Ends in Attempted Murder Charge
A naked man fell through the ceiling of a women's bathroom at Boston's Logan Airport on Saturday before allegedly assaulting an elderly man.
The man was identified by police as 26-year-old Boston resident Cameron Shenk, reports The Associated Press. Charges against Shenk for his puzzling airport rampage include attempted murder, mayhem, assault and battery on a police officer, and lewd and lascivious conduct.
How did a naked man end up in the ceiling of the Logan Airport's women's restroom?
Man Reportedly Undressed in Stall, Climbed Into Crawlspace
According to police, a woman reported that she was using the restroom in Logan Airport's Terminal C when a naked man fell through the ceiling. Shenk had allegedly been undressed in one of the bathroom's stalls and climbed into the crawlspace above the bathroom before crashing through.
Shenk fled the bathroom and attacked an 84-year-old man outside, biting the man's ear and attempting to choke him with his own cane, according to police. Shenk continued to fight with officers who responded to the incident, injuring a state police trooper.
Attempted Murder, Mayhem
Shenk faces attempted murder, among other charges, for his assault on the elderly man. Under Massachusetts law, "poisoning, drowning or strangling another person, or by any means not constituting an assault with intent to commit murder" constitutes the crime of attempt to murder, punishable by up to 20 years in prison or two years in jail and a fine of up to $2,000.
Shenk was also charged with mayhem, which in some states is no longer a separate crime but rather encompassed within the crime of assault. Under Massachusetts law, however, mayhem remains a crime that occurs when a person "with malicious intent to maim or disfigure, cuts out or maims the tongue, puts out or destroys an eye, cuts or tears off an ear, cuts, slits or mutilates the nose or lip, or cuts off or disables a limb or member, of another person." Mayhem is also punishable by up to 20 years in state prison.
