Mom Makes 911 Phone Call to Help Video Game Addict Son
It was the final straw for Angela Mejia who was frustrated by her video game addict son. She was so overwhelmed by his incessant video game playing that she called the cops on him.
According to the Associated Press, the Boston woman made a 911 phone call to say she couldn't get her 14-year-old son to stop playing video games and go to sleep.
Mejia called the police at 2:30 a.m. to say that the teenager also walked around the house and turned on all the lights. Her son is one of four children, the 49-year-old mom is raising alone.
Mejia is among thousands of parents struggling with today's video-game obsessed youth. The Entertainment Software Association reports the popularity of video games is skyrocketing, with 42 percent of adults intending to give, or hoping to find one in their Christmas stocking this week.
Two officers who responded to the house persuaded the child to obey his mother.
Police spokesman Officer Joe Zanoli said the mother's 911 phone call over video game obsession was a little unusual, but by no means is it surprising - especially in today's day and age when kids spend their time playing video games or on computers.
The Boston Herald first reported the 911 call, saying the boy was playing the popular "Grand Theft Auto" game.
Experts say it's a very rare situation for someone to call the cops and Mejia's actions speaks to her level of frustration about her video game addict son.
An argument ensued as Mejia unplugged her son's PlayStation. She then dialed 911 and the police who responded managed to talk the boy into shutting off the game and going to sleep.
