Mel Gibson News: Oksana Shockingly Drops Domestic Violence Charges

He may have already pled no contest and agreed to three years of probation, but word has it that the Mel Gibson-Oksana Grigorieva domestic violence charges will no longer be part of the ex-couple's custody dispute.

Or at least that's what her lawyer told the judge Wednesday morning.

Ever since the whole Mel Gibson/Oksana Grigorieva domestic violence and blackmail fiasco hit the headlines, it's been pretty clear that those nasty pictures and their underlying accusations were going to be a significant part of any discussion regarding their young daughter, Lucia.

In fact, Oksana has been pursuing changes to the existing custody order for quite some time, arguing that Mel's alleged violence is grounds for change.

But no more, says TMZ. Attorney Dan Horowitz told the presiding judge and Gibson's attorney that not only will Oksana be dropping any violence-related custody arguments, but she's had the restraining order against him terminated.

Talk about a new direction in the realm of Mel Gibson news.

If you're wondering why Oksana would ever consider this, it's believed that it was her attempt to "extend an olive branch" and restart a civil conversation between the co-parents.

This may be true, but it has little bearing on how the judge will ultimately rule.

Oksana has already brought the case to the judge's attention, and if he's so inclined, he can still consider the alleged domestic violence and alter the custody order. After all, the judge's focus is the child's welfare and best interests, not her parents' publicity plays.
