Christina Aguilera had a bad 2010. Her Bionic album was a commercial flop, causing her to cancel her tour. Burlesque was no better — neither was her subsequent clothing. And at the end of the year she divorced her baby-daddy and husband of five years, Jordon Bratman.

Well, 2011 isn’t looking any better for the singer. Aguilera, arrested with boyfriend Matthew Rutler, was hauled in by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department early this morning, reports MTV.

According to reports, Matthew Rutler was behind the wheel when the two were pulled over. Officers took the pair to the West Hollywood station to "dry out," writes E Online. Rutler, allegedly intoxicated, was booked on charges of driving under the influence, and is being held on a $30,000 bail, reports the site.

Christina Aguilera, arrested for misdemeanor public intoxication, was released once she sobered up. Though police don't often arrest passengers for public intoxication, the law allows them to hold individuals if safety concerns arise. Because the traffic stop occurred at 2:45 a.m. and Rutler was being arrested on a more serious charge, police may have felt that it would be safer to hold Aguilera until she could care for herself.

Although prosecutors won't be pursuing charges against the singer, this incident may come back to haunt Christina Aguilera. Arrested mothers who are vying for custody of their children can have a more difficult time showing a court that they are fit to be a parent. Add this to the tabloid stories about her relationship with Matthew Rutler, and she is suddenly facing an uphill battle.
