Mariah Carey Sued Over Unpaid Vet Bills

Cha-Cha, Dolomite and JJ, three Jack Russell terriers were given "extraordinary services" according to a breach of contract lawsuit filed against pop star Mariah Carey for alleged unpaid pet bills.

A New York veterinarian Cindy Bressler sued singer Mariah Carey for a $30,000 bill racked up during a month of care while Mariah was in L.A. promoting "Precious," PopEater reports.

Apparently, Carey only paid $8,200 of the $37,800 owed for the month of care.

Bressler, who specializes in small dog internal medicine was in charge of grooming and feeding the dogs. Her clientele includes prominent New Yorkers and celebrity clients.

According to the breach of contract lawsuit, she also delivered one of the pups last year.

A breach of contract--also called a default--is one party's failure, without a legally valid excuse, to live up to any of his or her responsibilities under a contract. A breach can occur by:

  • the failure to perform as promised;
  • making it impossible for the other party to perform; and
  • the repudiation of the contract (announcing an intent not to perform)

However, when someone partially breaches a contract it typically means they have failed to pay a bill by the precise date specified. It also may happen when the contract has several parts, each of which can be treated as a separate contract. If one of those parts is breached, you could sue for damages even though there isn't a total breach.

According to officials from Mariah's camp, her legal team is unaware of the lawsuit.
