Man's 'Star Trek' Apartment Must Boldly Go Thanks to His Divorce

The Wrath of Khan is apparently no match for the wrath of a soon-to-be ex-wife. A British man's spouse is forcing him to give up his beloved apartment, which he'd remodeled to look like a "Star Trek" set.

Nightclub DJ and devout "Trekker" Tony Alleyne, 58, received worldwide attention for his one-bedroom "Star Trek" flat in Hinckley, England. It took more than $150,000 and ten years of hard "labour" to create, MSNBC reports.

Too bad his soon-to-be ex-wife was in charge of the mortgage.

Tony Alleyne's spouse, Georgina, is apparently the "Star Trek" apartment's sole legal owner. The couple split up 1994, and now finally -- with divorce proceedings soon set to start -- Tony is under orders to abandon ship.

"To say I'm gutted is an understatement. It is my life's work," Alleyne told the UK's Sun tabloid. "I admit there were tears." Georgina plans to sell the flat, and remove all the "Star Trek" stuff.

We're not too sure about divorce laws in the UK (head to our sister website, FindLawUK, for that), but if the Alleynes were to beam over to the United States, division of the "Star Trek" apartment could be handled differently upon divorce, depending on where they lived.

State laws dictate how property is split between spouses in a divorce. Some states follow community property rules -- by default, all property acquired during the marriage is split 50/50. Prenuptial agreements can also come into play.

Other states follow equitable distribution rules, allowing courts to divvy up marital property as a judge deems fair. Courts can consider a number of factors, such as who purchased or maintained the property in question.

Unfortunately for Tony Alleyne, the facts seem to favor Georgina. Tony's probably now wishing he'd equipped his "Star Trek" apartment with defensive capabilities -- or even a self-destruct button.
