Actress Lohan Released From Rehab Under Strict Probation

In the never ending saga that is actress Lindsay Lohan's legal life, the starlet has been released from her original 90-day inpatient rehab requirement. The 24 year-old actress-turned-courtroom-fixture will now be required to do an outpatient rehab program that includes psychotherapy and addiction counseling sessions several times per week. The court has also required Lohan to submit to drug testing twice a week until November. Lohan will be required to remain living in the Los Angeles area and will be able to work, reports the Houston Chronicle.

Lohan's attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, is happy with the results, "She has changed. She's healthy. She's clear-headed. She is positive at looking forward. This was a good day for her in court. She has complied with everything that has been asked of her."

The move from inpatient to outpatient rehab gives Lohan a chance to work on her acting career, and also allows the court to see whether the slight relaxation of her supervision will be something the probation-breaking Lohan will be able to handle this time around. If not, the judge in this case already warned Lohan that she will be heading back to jail for 30 days for any violation. As the publicity-loving celebrity has already learned, its much easier to get caught violating terms of a probation order when there are cameras to record it.

Judges have a lot of flexibility when it comes to this alternative form of sentencing. It is no wonder that they do not take violations of their rules very lightly. Probation violations can also serve to increase the terms of the original sentence, as well as carry their own punishments when the violation is a seperate offense. Hopfully for actress Lindsay Lohan, the 5th trip to rehab will be the last.
