Lindsay Lohan Lied to Cops About Car Crash?

Lindsay Lohan's car crash is a lesson on what not to do following a car accident.

The 25-year-old actress is accused of getting into a car accident last week when her rental Porsche collided with an 18-wheeler.

Fortunately, no one was seriously hurt in the accident. Unfortunately, reports have surfaced that Lindsay Lohan lied to police officers who responded to scene and now could face jail time, reports the New York Daily News.

Not wanting to further damage her already damaged image, Lohan allegedly told Santa Monica police that she was not the driver at the time of the accident. Instead, the actress tried to point the finger at her assistant "Gavin" as the culprit behind the Lindsay Lohan car crash.

While Lohan may be a trained actress, her assistant Gavin is not quite as convincing, it seems. Gavin reportedly told police that Lohan was in fact the driver -- meaning that Lindsay Lohan lied to the cops.

The California Vehicle Code says that you must tell the truth to police officers who arrive at the scene of an accident. Giving false information may be considered a misdemeanor, a crime that possibly carries a six month prison term.

It wasn't reported why Lohan would want to lie about being behind the wheels of the car. She should know that the coverup is oftentimes worse than the offense.

For simply getting into an accident, Lohan could have simply exchanged information and driven off. But the actress, who has a magnetic affinity for trouble, managed to turn a routine "Lindsay Lohan Car Accident" headline into a "Lindsay Lohan Lied to Cops" headline and could now be sent to jail.
