Learn About Privilege: Get Your MCLE Credit for Elimination of Bias

When it comes time to make sure you've got all your MCLE credits, realizing you forgot to satisfy your Elimination of Bias requirement can be frustrating. This one can be especially frustrating because the courses offered online can often be horribly outdated, not to mention overpriced, and pretty much worthless.

Fortunately, The Rutter Group has a worthwhile, in person, 1 hour course that actually focuses on current issues surrounding the elimination of bias in the legal profession. The program, Bias in the 21st Century: Recognition and Elimination of Bias in the Legal Profession and Society, will teach you about the current issues surrounding "majority privilege," "white privilege," and "male privilege." Understanding "Privilege" as an Attorney

The concept of "privilege" in society is not new, but it certainly has made its way into the mainstream discussion of race and gender relations. And it is a tricky topic to talk about, and even harder to fully grasp and understand. Like implicit racial bias, the discussion surrounding privilege is both nuanced and emotionally charged.

As attorneys, having your thumb on the pulse of everyday Americans and understanding the challenges and biases individuals from different backgrounds experience is crucial to providing effective representation. This course will help participants to explore the concept of privilege from multiple lenses in order to gain an expanded understanding of different perspectives, particularly in the context of the practice of law.

Program Details

The Rutter Group's Bias in the 21st Century: Recognition and Elimination of Bias in the Legal Profession and Society program will be held live at the Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City, on Tuesday, November 14, 2017.

In addition to this program, which runs from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., an additional program by The Rutter Group, Competence Issues in Today's World: Recognizing and Treating Substance Abuse and Mental Health Issues, will run from 7:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. immediately after and provide an additional 1 hour of MCLE credit for competency issues (another one of those pesky specialized credits). The cost for each is only $60, but if you register for both, it'll cost $100 and knock out a couple requirements with one stone in one evening.
