Landlord Tenant Litigation - It's Ugly

They say that Angelinos are the ones obsessed with appearances. Look out L.A., New York is right on your high heels. In a tale soon to be the pride of all style obsessed New Yorkers, a couple was sued for their ugliness.

To be more accurate an Icelandic couple, Jon Asgeir Johannesson and his wife designer Ingibjorg Palmadottir, was sued for their ugly kitchen, as reported by the AP. Many Manhattanites consider themselves fortunate if they have a kitchen, not just a fridge and hot plate adjacent to the bathroom. But the defendants, owners of a luxurious Gramercy Park Hotel apartment, did not fully appreciate their good fortune. According to a more extensive report by the New York Daily News, the owners had committed to renovate a portion of their apartment. They were late in doing so and when they did it was well, ugly.

Also, according to the reports of the suit, it was Ikea. Now, many people are fond of the inexpensive Swedish design offered by this company, but the plaintiffs are not. The Daily News reports that plaintiffs Paramount Realty Group, suing on behalf of the tenants of the Icelandic mogul and his wife, claim that while renting the luxe pad they were "embarrassed" by the ugly kitchen and had to endure "comments" from their guests about said kitchen. Talk about pain and suffering. It should be noted that the rent came in at the substantial rate of $312,000 a month. Maybe that should guarantee you a bit more than a kitchen with press- board cabinets.

At this time, neither party would comment to The Daily News regarding the suit, nor would Paramount reveal the names of the tenants who were so distressed by the offensive kitchen. The plaintiffs seek $52,000 in damages. There is no report at this time regarding any claims for intentional infliction of ugly.
