Lack of Toilet Paper Causes Man to Trash Hotel Room
Going paperless can be infuriating. Just ask a Charlotte man who went on a hotel vandalism rampage after he ran out of toilet paper in his room.
The alleged destruction took place between 10 p.m. and 2:30 a.m., the police report says. That's when the man apparently learned he was out of luck in the loo -- and decided his No. 1 goal was to get even.
The man stormed out of his room and found a vacant one that was being renovated, CBS Charlotte reports. Once there, he allegedly clogged the vacant room's toilet, which then overflowed.
He also blew out a hair dryer and smashed several lights, before returning to his own room and continuing the rampage.
In all, the toilet paper-driven disturbance caused more than $2,000 in hotel vandalism. The damage also included some graffiti, but the police report did not elaborate.
The police report also did not name the suspect. But Examiner.com identified him as Dereck MacDonald, 43, and posted his mug shot online.
MacDonald has been arrested in connection with vandalism. To prove the charges in court, prosecutors will simply need to show he destroyed someone else's property without permission.
In his defense, MacDonald could try to claim it was all an accident, or even artistic expression. But the hotel security guard who first called the cops would probably tell the court otherwise.
If guilty, MacDonald could face a possible fine and even jail time.
It's not clear why the hotel vandal didn't just report his toilet paper problem to the front desk, and wait for a replacement like the rest of us would. Apparently, that's just not how he rolls.
