Kris Humphries, Kim Kardashian Divorce Could Go to Trial

The legal teams for Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian will be headed to court today to make a decision about their divorce.

Humphries will basically be faced with the decision to either settle with Kardashian or prepare for trial. So far Humphries has refused to reach an agreement with Kardashian, despite the fact that he signed an "iron-clad" prenuptial agreement, reports the New York Post.

But if he doesn't settle, the splitting couple will be headed to a trial where it's unclear what the New Jersey Nets power forward hopes to gain.

For her part, Kim Kardashian wants the Kris Humphries divorce finalized as quickly as possible. Her marriage to Humphries generated much publicity, and her divorce from him even more. She has also clearly moved on with her life and is involved in a highly publicized relationship with Kanye West.

For his part, Kris Humphries has also benefited from the short-lived marriage. He went from a relatively unknown player on a horrendous team, to essentially becoming a household name. In addition, he made a significant amount off the televised wedding and his appearances on the Kardashians' reality show, reports the Post. Not to mention he just signed a $24 million extension with the Nets.

But despite his benefits from the wedding, Kris Humphries may still have an ax to grind.

By forcing the divorce to trial, Humphries can potentially make life miserable for Kardashian. He can continue to linger and possibly even call Kardashian to the stand to prove that the marriage was not a fraud, reports TMZ.

A lot of times a divorce is not about logic. There are a lot of emotions involved in a divorce proceeding, and parties may make decisions that do not appear to make a lot of sense. While Kris Humphries may have strategic reasons to take the Kim Kardashian divorce to trial, the decision could be motivated by spite as well.
