Kim Zolciak should be used to drama but this time it's coming from her mom's demand for visitation, not her role on 'Real Housewives of Atlanta.'

Her mom, Karen Zolciak, wants visitation rights with her four grandchildren. She says that she previously had a good relationship with her granddaughters, ages 9 and 15, and spent a lot of time with them before Kim's wedding, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Now she says she never gets to see them. Her claim is that Kim can't legally keep her away.

Grandma Zolciak's petition claims that she spent a lot of quality time with the girls over the years and they built a strong bond. She also took care of them a lot when they were younger and Kim was living at home with Zolciak, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Based on that relationship, she says she has a right to keep seeing her granddaughters and she's asking a court to side with her.

Visitation rights come up more often between parents but grandparents do have some rights to see their grandchildren.

Most states have some legal provision to grant visitation rights to grandparents.

The law provides that if visitation is in the best interest of the child, it is will often be granted. That allows children to continue a relationship with their grandparents even if the parents and grandparents aren't getting along.

Parents do still have a say in whether grandparents can have visitation.

Courts will take into account whether setting up visitation will burden the parents. They will also seriously consider any concerns the parents have about the relationship between grandparent and grandchild.

Setting up visitation is always complicated since it means sorting out multiple schedules to make visits possible. If you have questions about your rights, ask an expert.

The relationship between Kim Zolciak and her mother Karen appears strained on 'Real Housewives of Atlanta' and Kim's spinoff, 'Don't Be Tardy For the Wedding', reports TMZ. In her complaint, Karen Zolciak says that Bravo played up drama between the mother and daughter for ratings and that has strained their relationship.

Kim Zolciak and her attorney haven't commented on the petition, reports TMZ. Her mom's request for visitation is still pending in court.
