Kim Kardashian Sues Jonathan Jaxson: Ex-Publicist Called Marriage a Sham
Everyone's favorite reality TV starlet wants people to know that her 72-day marriage was based on love, not financial motivation. Kim Kardashian has sued Jonathan Jaxson, her ex-publicist who claims that her marriage to Kris Humphries was a "sham."
Kim has hired attorney Marty Singer to go after the publicist.
Jaxson knows Kim well -- he worked with Kim from 2007 to 2009. During that time he says he helped Kim stage multiple publicity stunts.
Kim is suing Jaxson for defamation of character, and is asking for about $200,000 worth of damages to her reputation. She also says he broke a confidentiality agreement, which Jaxson denies.
In order for her defamation suit to succeed, the statements that Jaxson made can't be true. Truth is typically a defense to a defamation suit.
So, was Jaxson's statement true? You be the judge, his story is broken down below:
-
His reputation: Jaxson worked as Kim's publicist for two years, meaning he was probably privy to some of her personal thoughts.
-
His sources: The publicist says that many of his statements are based on conversations he has had with mutual friends he shares with Kim, the New York Daily News reports.
-
His rather convincing story: Jaxson says that weeks before Kim was to be wed, she knew that it wasn't right but felt obligated to go through with the nuptials. She didn't want to break contracts with E! and other companies that had a financial stake in the wedding. Jaxson says that Kim hadn't gotten over her ex, Reggie Bush. (Jaxson claims he helped her generate buzz that she would get engaged to Bush via the paparazzi.)
Just because Kim Kardashian has sued doesn't mean a court will buy what she's selling. Did Jonathan Jaxson's comments really cause damage to the reality TV star? Especially when speculations that her wedding to Kris Humphries was staged already abounded before he made his statements?
