Kilo of Cocaine Found Hidden in Bologna

Bologna, the popular sandwhich meat, is taking on a whole new role these days after a 30 year-old Holyoke, Massacheutts man was the recepient of a cocaine-stuffed chunk of bologna. Juan G. Rodriguez was later arrested on cocaine trafficking charges, according to MSNBC.

A bunch of bologna? Not this case, as Rodriguez will have to answer to more than just Oscar Mayer for his unconvential use of the deli meat. With a steet value of close to $100,000, police were originally tipped off to the "enhanced" meat by postal workers in Puerto Rico, who had been investigating similar shipments over the past month. An undercover postal worker delivered the package to its indended recipient, and police later entered his house and arrested Rodriguez.

Authorities also found other Puerto Rico-based deliveries to Rodriguezs' address occurring in May and June of this year. No stranger to the law, Rodriguez has been convicted of assault and battery and murder threats in the past. The ongoing bologna cocaine investigation is believed to be much bigger than just this one meat lover.

Drug trafficking charges carry some serious penalties, with sentencing increases for repeat offenses, and based on the amount of illegal substance an individual is found to be in possession of. In this case, the kilo of cocaine could land Rodriguez in jail for up to twenty years, in addition to heavy fines and a strict probation. Perhpas becoming a vegetarian is a good option for Juan Rodriguez, who maintains his innocence in the whole ordeal.
