Justin Bieber's DUI Plea Deal: Anger Management, $50K Donation
Perennially troubled pop star Justin Bieber has agreed to a plea deal following a DUI arrest in Florida earlier this year, according to local news reports in Miami.
Under the terms of the deal, Bieber is set to plead guilty to careless driving and resisting arrest, attend an anger management course, and make a $50,000 charitable donation, reports the Miami Herald. In return, the state will drop the DUI charges against Bieber.
What led to the charges against the Biebs, and why is Bieber likely to be well-versed in anger management techniques by the end of this year?
January DUI Arrest
Bieber was arrested in January and charged with drunken driving, resisting arrest, and driving without a license after police alleged Bieber and a friend were drag-racing in Miami Beach. Bieber's security team, and reportedly Bieber's father Jeremy, had blocked off the street for the race.
According to police, Bieber repeatedly shouted expletives at the arresting officer, leading to the resisting arrest charge.
Although officers observed symptoms of intoxication, such as bloodshot eyes and a flushed face, according to the Herald, results of blood alcohol tests showed Bieber's BAC was below the legal limit.
Nevertheless, in addition to his donation and 12-hour anger management course -- which will be held privately to avoid a fan frenzy -- the Miami Herald reports that Bieber will have to watch online videos of tragic DUI cases.
Plea Deal Is Bieber's 2nd in 2 Months
Bieber's DUI plea deal is his second in the last two months. And both have included anger management classes.
Bieber's previous plea came last month, when the singer pleaded no contest to charges of vandalism for egging a neighbor's house in California.
In that case, Bieber agreed to two years of probation, five days of community service and 12 weeks' worth of anger management classes in addition to restitution to the owner of the house.
