Justin Bieber Faces Drugged Driving, Canadian Assault Charges

Justin Bieber can't seem to catch a break. From police investigating his involvement in an egging incident in Los Angeles to getting arrested for drunken driving in Miami, it's like his legal troubles are part of some sad cross-country road trip set to "Party in the U.S.A."

Well, his legal troubles have officially gone global. Bieber's latest legal trouble entails an arrest for assault in Canada.

Here's an update on his reckless road trip:

DUI Toxicology Report Results

Just like what Bieber told police, the toxicology report reveals that the young star was driving his yellow Lamborghini while under the influence of marijuana and Xanax, reports USA Today. According to the report, he tested negative for cocaine, opiates, meth, and other drugs.

Unfortunately for Bieber, you can still get a DUI for driving under the influence of legal drugs like Xanax. Any prescription or over-the-counter drug that can impair your "motor skills" (double entendre!) is a no-no behind the wheel. This case is especially problematic because the singer may not have had a prescription for Xanax -- he allegedly got the pills from his mom.

Less surprising, driving under the influence of marijuana counts for a DUI, too. While it's trickier to prosecute in pot-friendly states like Colorado and Washington, it's not tough in states like Florida where recreational use is still illegal.

Assault Allegations

DUI aside, Bieber's latest run-in with the law is over an alleged assault on a limo driver in Toronto. The alleged incident happened after a limo driver picked up a group of six people outside a Toronto nightclub just before 3 a.m. December 30, reports CNN.

En route to a hotel, "a man struck the limousine driver on the back of the head several times. The driver stopped the limousine, exited the vehicle and called police," the police report said.

Just like in the United States, a person commits an assault in Canada when he or she intentionally applies force to someone without consent. A threatening act or gesture to apply force counts, too.

If the limo driver was indeed hit in the head without his consent and the "man" was Justin Bieber, the star may very well have committed a Canadian assault.
