Justices Give C-Span Cameras a Peek at What Goes on In Camera
C-SPAN has taped a documentary on the Supreme Court that shows some of the justices' private sides.
For instance: Sonia Sotomayor, like so many Americans, doesn't want to sell her primary residence right now because the real estate market's still down a well.
In an interview with the network, Sotomayor admits that concerns over the state of the market have prevented her from selling her Greenwich Village condo, even though she's currently shopping around for a new pad in D.C.
Sotomayor listed the value of the condo at a cool million bucks on her financial disclosure forms after the nomination, with about $380,000 left on her mortgage. No one knows what the value of the condo is now, though.
I'm not too concerned about Sotomayor's prospects for offloading the NYC condo, however. It is the Village, after all. People will always want to live there, and as soon as the market rebounds, she'll be back in business.
John Paul Stevens also tells C-SPAN that he maintains his youthful vigor at the age of 89 by swimming every day and playing tennis three times a week. Way to go, JPS - make the rest of us feel like couch potatoes.
It gets better - not only does JPS exercise more than you and have a better job than you, he does a lot of the work for that cooler job on the beach! Stevens tells C-SPAN that he often reads briefs and such while chillaxing on the beach in Fort Lauderdale.
He goes on to recount the tale of being back in Washington and pulling out some documents he had been reading on the beach. "I shook the sand out of the briefs and found it made my neighbors a little jealous of the way I prepare," he said.
Yeah, no kidding, JPS! I'd start watching out for a bow-tie wedgie if I were you. Keep a close eye on Scalia - he seems like the bow-tie wedgie type.
