A Florida jury awarded $61 million to the family of a teenager killed in a Ford SUV rollover accident when the boy's 17-year-old friend fell asleep driving the vehicle.  While the jury didn't assess punitive damages in the case, it ordered the car manufacturer to pay  $1.2 million in damages, and $60 million for the pain and suffering of the dead boy's family.  As in many personal injury trials where significant damages are awarded, it appears likely that Ford will appeal the verdict, a process that could prolong resolution of the case for years.
