Judge to Mean Mom: No Posting About Kids on Facebook
Talk about a mean mom. A mother in New York has been banned from posting on her children's Facebook pages. In fact, she can't post about her children at all, on any social media site.
The mother of three, identified only as "Melody M," was posting comments to insult and demean her kids, reports The Huffington Post.
Specifically, she called her 10-year-old son an obscenity beginning with the letter "a." And she even defended her comment in court.
According to HuffPo, Melody M. told the judge she'd called her son the "a" word because "he is." And she wanted people to know.
The no-posting-on-Facebook order is the latest in a series of court rulings against Melody M. A family court gave the father of her three children sole custody back in 2011. She was denied custody due to a "pattern of inappropriate behavior," according to court documents.
Child custody decisions can be based on many things. In the end, it comes down to the best interests of the child. And it's clearly not in the best interests of the child to be exposed to cyber-bullying from his own mother.
In this case, Melody M.'s son also has mental health issues, HuffPo reports. Melody has allegedly refused to take part in her son's mental health counseling, and has even admitted to using "physical means" to deal with him.
But does the court's order, which also forbids her from contacting her kids via social media, go too far?
Melody M.'s lawyer complained to the New York Law Journal that the ban unfairly restricts Melody from posting positive things about her kids, too. Now, he claims, she can't post about her son's "game-winning home run in a baseball game" or even getting onto the honor roll.
In the best interests of the child, that's a risk that the court is apparently willing to take.
