Judge Judy's Son, a DA, 'Interfering' in Child Rape Case: Sheriff
Judge Judy's son is being accused of interfering in a child rape case.
Adam Levy, Judge Judith Sheindlin's son and a district attorney in Putnam County, New York, has some strange ties to the alleged child rapist, reports United Press International.
The suspect, Alexander Hossu, was charged with raping a 12-year-old girl and had been living in Levy's home as his live-in personal trainer. Along with facing two counts of first-degree rape, Hossu, who's from Romania, is also accused of immigration violations by staying past his visa expiration date.
This has prompted many to wonder how Levy could have allowed the man to live under his roof without at least knowing that the trainer had no right to be in the country.
The live-in trainer reportedly met the child victim's mother and started a relationship with her. Then in October 2010, Hossu allegedly "forcibly and violently" raped the child twice. When asked for his contact information, Hossu gave authorities Levy's address.
Levy's knowledge and involvement in the case is murky at best. But Putnam County's sheriff is accusing Levy of trying to use his office to influence the investigation. The sheriff has also asked federal officials to probe whether Levy broke any laws by aiding Hossu. However, Levy maintains that he was unaware of Hossu's crimes and says that he cooperated with authorities.
Interfering with a criminal investigation is a serious charge in New York.
Generally, someone can be charged with obstruction of justice if he attempts to obstruct, impair, or pervert the administration of law by intimidation, interference, or some other means. While no formal charges have been brought against Levy, the county sheriff is suggesting that Levy obstructed justice by throwing his weight and position around.
For such accusations, Levy could potentially face a Class A misdemeanor charge. However, as Levy and the county sheriff appear to be involved in a personal feud, it's doubtful that criminal charges will be brought against Judge Judy's son.
