Judge: Jackson Doctor Can Keep CA State Medical License
A judge has sided with Dr. Conrad Murray and decided to allow the celebrity physician to keep his California state medical license.
Dr. Conrad Murray was the personal physician charged with involuntary manslaughter in the King of Pop's death. Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor refused to ban the doctor from practicing in the state and ruled that he did not have the authority to revoke the doctor's medical license, the Associated Press reports.
As previously discussed, CA Attorney General Jerry Brown filed a petition with the Los Angeles County Superior Court on behalf of the California Medical Board to revoke Murray's license.
The petition asked that the 57-year-old cardiologist be barred from practicing in California. Brown said Jackson's doctor showed a serious lack of judgment.
However, Judge Pastor said there were not any circumstances that warranted revisiting the conditions of Murray's bail.
In addition, the judge said he may revisit the issue of Murray's state medical license, but only if there was new information.
Murray is still restricted from using the anesthesia Propofol with patients in California and Texas, a bail provision he did not object to at his initial hearing in February.
However, the order from the medical board does not prohibit Murray from prescribing or using other medications, including pain medication or anti-anxiety medication.
As previously discussed, Dr. Conrad Murray was the cardiologist treating Michael Jackson for insomnia when the singer died on June 25.
Murray has acknowledged administering Propofol to Jackson. Propofol is an anesthetic used to render patients unconscious before major surgery.
The coroner has ruled Michael Jackson's death at age 50 was a homicide caused by acute intoxication by the anesthetic Propofol and other sedatives, as previously discussed.
