Jennifer Rochon to Become 1st-Ever GC at Girl Scouts of the USA

Last week, Girl Scouts of the USA announced the appointment of Jennifer Rochon as the organization's first-ever general counsel.

Rochon, a seasoned litigator with experience ranging from complex contractual disputes to intellectual property, will join the Girl Scouts on October 1.

Sadly, she will be compensated in dollars and not in Thin Mints.

Who Is Jennifer Rochon?

Rochon is currently a litigation partner at the New York City-based law firm of Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel LLP. She's a member of the firm's Executive Committee and manages approximately 375 attorneys in offices in New York, California, and Paris, according to PR Newswire.

If you're jonesing for a similarly sweet gig, a grab bag of solid experience may serve you well. Rochon's experience ranges widely from complex commercial and regulatory matters to bread-and-butter employment issues. Her experience jibes well with Girl Scouts, as she has represented companies in both commercial and nonprofit contexts.

After obtaining a B.A. from the University of Michigan and her J.D. from New York University, Rochon launched her legal career as a law clerk for Judge Maryanne Trump Barry of the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, according to her firm profile.

Yes, but Does She Have the Female Empowerment Badge?

Of course she does. She was a Girl Scout, after all.

"As a third generation Girl Scout, this organization holds a special place in my personal family history," Rochon said. "I am very proud to be a part of its mission to promote leadership and empower girls and women throughout the world."

Rochon has championed the cause of promoting women in the legal lanscape. She chairs the Kramer Levin Women's Initiative Committee, which "focuses on improving the recruitment, retention and advancement of women attorneys, promoting women in leadership roles, and creating effective business networks for women," according to PR Newswire.

She is also a member of the Leadership 35 Advisory Committee to the National Women's Law Center.
