Jenni Rivera Killed in Plane Crash
Jenni Rivera, the Mexican-American singing sensation, is presumed dead after her plane crashed in Mexico early Sunday.
Rivera, 43, had finished a show in Monterrey, Mexico, and was aboard a plane bound for the city of Toluca when it disappeared from radar. While the Mexican government has not officially confirmed her death, it appears there were no survivors of the crash.
News of Rivera's death has rocked the entertainment industry. The singer's fame and fortune will now make it a bit complicated to deal with her estate.
Known as "Diva de la Banda," Rivera was born in California but shot to fame in Mexico for her pop interpretations of traditional Mexican music, according to Fox News.
She released her first album "Chacalosa" in 1995, and went on to record many more in the following years. Rivera produced and starred in several reality TV shows and even a movie which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
She'd recently signed a deal with ABC for a new show called "Jenni," reports MTV.
All that fame translates into money. Not only will her family have to divide Rivera's current net worth, her music will likely continue making money for her heirs.
Rivera has five children from two of her previous marriages. She recently announced her divorce from baseball player Esteban Loaiza.
If Rivera did not have a will, her fortune will likely be split amongst her children. Her three eldest are old enough to take care of themselves and would be able to receive their shares immediately.
But her two younger children who are not yet 18 will still need a guardian. Whoever takes on that role will be entitled to some money as well. The amount is generally dictated by a court.
While the crash made identification of the bodies impossible, Rivera's license was found in the wreckage. Also presumed dead in the crash was Rivera's publicist, her lawyer, hairdresser, and the two pilots, MTV News reports.
