Iowa Driving Instructor Gave Wine to Teens During Driving Lessons?

If you're looking to have some alcohol-fueled fun while learning how to drive, look no further. Driver's ed teacher Frederick Bindner was arrested after he allegedly offered some booze to his students then let them loose on the roadways

Bindner, 62, was arrested in Coralville, Iowa. He gave wine to two teenage students at an Olive Garden restaurant before letting them get behind the wheel to begin class.

A third student was present at the time but refused the wine. She then told her father who went to the police.

Maybe Bindner, operator of Auto Right Driving School, needs a primer on driver's ed. As a cardinal rule, drinking while driving is against the law.

Most students who go through driver's ed are also inflicted with frightening images of car crashes that result from unsafe driving practices. This would ironically include drunk driving.

Bindner is now facing misdemeanors for providing alcohol to minors. The girls who accepted the wine will not be charged though they did possess alcohol illegally, according to the Iowa City Press-Citizen.

The father of one of the girls is also seeking to have Bindner's license to teach driver's education revoked, the Iowa City Press-Citizen reports.

Considering how many fatalities there are each year because of drunk driving, maybe this would be for the best.

Not only was Bindner flagrantly going against the law by providing alcohol to the underage girls, but he was then allowing them to drive. And, the teens are driving students. Their driving experience and skill levels are presumably lower than the average adult.

If you add alcohol to inexperienced driving, and you could be getting a dangerous mix. Calls placed to Frederick Bindner's driving school on Friday were not returned. But, the driver's ed teacher is set to go before a judge on September 1st, the Iowa City Press-Citizen reports.
