In-N-Out Seeks Restraining Order Against YouTube Prankster

Some people will do anything for 15 minutes of internet fame. Much of it is harmless, some completely reckless, and some just sort of annoying. A 27-year-old YouTube prankster is finding out that occasionally stunts can also get you into legal trouble. In-N-Out Burger is seeking a restraining order against the YouTube star after a series of pranks inside two of their L.A. restaurants.

The Prank

Online prankster Cody Roeder posts his videos on YouTube under the name Trollmunchies. His recent posts show him entering two different In-N-Out restaurants in a suit, and posing as the company's CEO. At one location, he said he was there to make a surprise visit and demanded the kitchen staff make him a cheeseburger and fries to "taste test." He left after employees called the police.

At a second location the next day, he again claimed to be the CEO looking into food contamination. There, he picked up a customer's burger, said it was contaminated, threw it on floor, and stepped on it, calling it "garbage." At both locations, staff questioned his assertions.

He Was In, Now He's Out

In-N-Out has now filed for a restraining order, saying the prankster used "deceit, fraud, and trespass" to "humiliate, offend, or otherwise make customers or associates uncomfortable." The order seeks to exclude Roeder as well as those who accompanied him and filmed the pranks. The company is also seeking damages of over $25,000, saying the incidents caused "significant and irreparable" harm.
